NTA10 conference «Digitisation and culture»
Digitisation and its diverse features have set major societal transformations in motion, and the impacts are felt in all areas of life – also in the cultural sphere. Here, the term “culture” is used in a general sense that covers locations, artists and cultural professionals, cultural formats and expressions, as well as persons and institutions involved in cultural mediation.
This shift to a virtual world is raising complex questions about society, democracy and government. How is digitisation changing culture in terms of the ways in which we experience and grasp “world”? And not least with regard to culture itself, how is digitisation affecting the essence of cultural expression along with our understanding of what “culture” is? How is the relationship between audience and artist changing? What opportunities and risks arise regarding participation? What consequences does the digital transformation have for how an audience engages with the world through a cultural lens, and what are the related implications for self-reflection? What does it mean that commercial platforms are increasingly used in cultural mediation – both for cultural diversity and for artists and cultural professionals? What changes are seen in places of cultural creation and in how material and immaterial goods are preserved? How do these developments bear on state-funded cultural promotion? Are there differences in German, Austrian and Swiss cultural promotion strategies?
These are some of the questions addressed at the 10th NTA conference in Bern, on 14–16 November 2022.
Registration period extended until Monday, October 31, 2022
